Obituary For Felix Durante Haraveth

The world's sweetest cat, Felix Durante, passed away after a short battle with advanced kidney failure in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 10, 2021. He was 16 years old.

Found on Atando Avenue in Fall 2005 after being chased off by the family basset hound while on a dog walk, Felix was named by his Pappy [who majored in Latin] and said this name meant 'lucky' - as he felt that Felix was very lucky to have found his family in a part of town where chances of survival were not very high. His second given name was after Jimmy Durante (known for his nose) because Felix had the most beautiful grey nose that really made his precious face so unique.

A lover of everyone and snuggler right from the start, it would be almost three more months before his mama would get home from her study abroad in England after he was rescued so he stayed with his Grammy and Pappy (and the basset hound, of course) until she was back in town. It was love at first sight for Felix and Mama and they lived a very happy 16 years together from that moment forward. He would come when you called him, would jump into your lap and curl up into a ball every day (especially when you had a blanket on you - he loved blankets), would sit in his mama's lap when she sat in front of the mirror on the floor to get ready in the mornings, would sleep like a small spoon with his mama every night, and would let his brothers play rough with him - even though he was much smaller and/or much older than they were.

Felix moved several places with his mama (even though he hated traveling) and was there to provide a lot of emotional support over all of the years, but especially when his Grammy passed away in 2013. His mama told him he had to promise to give her at least 10 more years before he left and he almost kept his promise - missing it by about 1.5 years. His Pappy also preceded him in death by exactly one week, so his mama knows that he had Grammy, Pappy, and Wilbur (the same family members that brought him home in Fall 2005) to welcome him when he crossed the rainbow bridge.

Felix is survived by his loving parents and three brothers: Peyton (black lab, 9 yo), Oscar (cat, 3 yo), and Logan (hound-terrier mix, 1 yo). The house is already so empty without this sweet soul who never bit nor scratched and put everyone before himself (unless it was feeding time, then he was very vocal about his need to eat right away), but we know we'll see our sweet Fee again soon.
