Obituary For Gigi Porembski

On August 9, 2025, our beloved cat Gigi passed away at home, just shy of 15 and a half.

We called her the Grand Dame of our family—every inch a lady, and truly a gift from God.

Gigi joined us when Arie was six and Sophia three. She walked Arie to the school bus and met her on the way home in first and second grade.

She had a dog—our Montana—born of police dogs and always on high alert, except with Gigi. They played together often in the backyard.

Between 2016 and 2023, Gigi weathered six moves and never strayed, despite being both indoor and outdoor.

In her last five years, she retired indoors. Though she gave up chipmunk hunting and trying to teach me to finish the job, she never retired being our comfort kitty, always offering snuggles when we were sad.

The details of her passing are sacred, but it was fast—faster than I could get mobile service—and she would’ve been too distressed to leave home.

I’m so proud of my daughters, who, once they understood what was happening, stayed prayerfully present and loving as Gigi returned to her Creator.

I’ve lived with animals too long to doubt their love and intuition. I believe the unconditional love God places in them returns to Him with their last breath.

Gigi helped me raise my daughters, offering gentle presence and comfort through the years. We miss you dearly, Gigi, and we trust God to hold you now.
