Obituary For Ginger West

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.”

Ginger the dog passed away gently held by her mom River at 1pm on October 1, 2021 after a six month battle with progressive cancer. Her daddy Will and sister Waffles were close in the room, standing in love at her side as her life came to a close. Her family is devastated and missing her bright spirit keenly every day, but is finding solace in the four years of absolute joy and unconditional love spent together.

Instantly beloved and adored by everyone she ever met, Ginger is remembered as an exuberant, loving, tenacious, curious, affectionate, determined, smart, incredibly loyal, and quirky girl. She loved eating, shredding tennis balls and toys to smithereens, snuggling 24/7, and suckling on a blanket when she got too excited or wanted to calm down for the night. She adored going for car rides, walks, and the dog park — but her favorite thing at the dog park was not to play with the others, but to get a ball, sit by her mama, and happily hog it with delight as Waffles raced around like a maniac.

Ginger is survived by her sister who will now have to relearn life without her best friend at her side. Ginger is also survived by her three favorite kids on earth: Neptune, Liam, and Killian. The memories we shared and built as a family will always be so special.

We will move forward in life forever thankful for the gifts Ginger gave us, mournful and angry about this thievery of a life stolen too soon but committed to moving through the grief and healing ourselves. We hope we can love others like Ginger did: without hesitation or judgment, with enthusiasm.

“Everyone is taught that angels have wings – the lucky ones of us find that they have four paws.”

The way you talked about your sweet dogs made me feel like I knew them! And even with not meeting Ginger in person, here's what I already knew about her: she was loved. Immensely. I knew she was the luckiest pup around to have a family like yours. And I know from your beautiful posts about her that when you found each other, it was destiny. 💕 You were meant to be and when something so beautiful like that comes along, no one ever wants it to end. I can't even begin to express how sorry I am for your loss but please know, Jonathan and I have your back and will be here for you during this difficult time. If there's one thing I know for sure, Ginger was so blessed to have a family like yours and I'm sure she's up in doggy heaven bragging about you guys to all her new friends. We love you! - Amy & Jonathan

Words can't begin to express the pain I know you're feeling, but remember how much love Ginger had for you and the special memories you were able to share. You were able to deliver her from the pain she was in and lift her up to the heavens where she can watch over you and still be with you each and every day. She loves you so much and always will.

Ginger was surrounded by love and silliness and she couldn't have had a better family. The world is a brighter place for having known her. Thank you for sharing her happy goofiness with those of us who never met her in person. Photos of her always brightened my day. She will be missed.

I am a nickname person. So Ginger wasn't just Ginger to me. She was Gingy or GingerSnaps. That's how I'll always remember her as my GingerSnaps. She was never devoid of sweet snuggles and kisses. When I would show up, her whole body would wag and her sweet smile would melt any stress or worry I would have after a long drive to see her mom. I will miss her sitting at my feet while I eat breakfast, hoping for a crumb. I'll miss her big brown beautiful eyes staring at me while I sing off key to the television. Most of all, I'll miss her whole body wags when she was extra excited about something. Sleep easy sweet Gingy. I love you more than I ever told you.

I'll always remember Ginger with that huge smile and kind eyes. Any time I stopped by to visit River, I knew I would get the warmest welcome from Ginger. She will be remembered as the brightest light and I'm so blessed that I got to be a part of her life. Rest easy sweet girl. Thank you for fighting as long as you did. You will forever be missed and loved.
