Obituary For Gunter O'Brien

After a long illness Gunter crossed the rainbow bridge at home and in my arms.

Gunter's remarkable journey as a rescue dog took him from the heights of sporting excellence to the realms of online celebrity, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gunter's legacy as a World Champion Dock Dog will forever be etched in the annals of Dock Dogs history. His grace, athletic agility, captivated me, his #1 fan. Beyond the accolades and ribbons, Gunter's passion for the sport shone brightly.

But Gunter was more than just an athletic prodigy; he was also a pioneer in the digital age, featured in several social media advertising campaigns for Rachel Ray’s Nutrish dog food line.

Yet, amidst his fame and acclaim, Gunter had a brief adventure in a “witness protection program” and his unwavering spirit of adventure helped him acclimate to a life of a farm dog making friends with other species - cats, horses, and goats.

As I mourn Gunter's passing, I take comfort in the countless cherished moments I shared with him—the exhilarating victories, the quiet moments of companionship, and the boundless love that he bestowed upon me without reservation. Though he may no longer be by my side, Gunter's spirit will forever remain a beacon of light.

As I held Gunter in my arms to send him on, I whispered in his ear “I love you a bazillion times to moon and back again. Go find your best buddy Joey and wait for me.”

I miss him beyond measure and he lives on in my heart forever.
