Obituary For Harley Mitchell

Harley "Butt Butt" Mitchell peacefully shed his mortal form and became one with the Universe after a lengthy battle with kidney failure. He was born to an unknown mother in June of 2004, who we can only assume, was the beloved pet of someone who pet each and every one of his siblings as they were born, as Harley came into this world assuming it was each and every human's duty to pet him constantly. His journey through the early days of his life are unknown, but he came to find himself in a foster program that placed him in the adoption program at PetSmart.

On a cloudy Wednesday evening on January 12th of 2005, at the age of six months, he was enjoying a cat nap in his cage, when he heard a tap on the window. He, unlike all the other cats there, popped up excitedly at the sight of the human who was smiling at him. He happily rubbed the glass, as if asking to go home. He had to wait a few more days, as adoption day was that Saturday. That Saturday, he decided he was going home with someone, he didn't care who. At approximately 11:30 AM that day, after making himself highly available each and every person and nearly going home with one of them, he saw that same face that tapped on his glass a few days earlier. His new mom had come for him and he was going home. He and a tabby of the same age, named Lilly, went home...not after Harley not understanding he had a home already attempted to work another human over for adoption while his new parents were acquiring all the things he would need for a happy home.

As the years went by, he became a steadfast and loving member of his household. He was happiest on his mother's lap, although finding spots of "warm" in the sunlight or next to a vent in the winter time were also his pastimes. He had no mean bone in his body, even when his brothers and sisters were trying to take his lap. Anyone who entered his house, be they his humans or strangers were welcome, as long as they paid his required "head pat" toll. His enjoyed belly rubs, chasing Nerf disks, rolling in catnip, and being in the presence of his humans.

He was preceded in death by his feline siblings Kiyone, Tenchi, Lilly, and Sasha who he has now crossed to Rainbow Bridge to re-unite with. He is survived by his parents, Livvie and Justin, who miss him dearly and his feline siblings Dexter, Miz, and Michi, and a canine sibling Yahtzee.

Harley looks and sounds a lot like my Yumi who passed last August at 18. I am so sorry. I hope the two of them are finding nice, warm sunny spots to nap in across the Rainbow Bridge.
