Obituary For Maggie Kennedy-DeLorme

Knightdale, North Carolina - Maggie Kennedy-DeLorme passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020, surrounded by her dads after a short battle with a heart murmur that led to heart failure. Maggie, 9, was born on June 25, 2011 in Hampton Roads, Virginia. She is survived by her parents, Shane and Joey DeLorme, our sheltie Darla DeLorme, and their extended families including pets.

Maggie was adopted as a puppy while Shane & Joey lived in Norfolk, VA. She graduated from puppy training class with distinction before turning 1. She moved with her family to Raleigh, NC in 2013 and began a new life with them.

She lived her life with the joy and playfulness of a puppy until her last days. She was a constant companion to her family and will always be remembered for her singing, her go-with-the-flow attitude, her warm snuggles, passion for the culinary arts, and love of life.

Never meeting a stranger and never forgetting a face, the people she met along the way became as important to her as her family. Shane & Joey wish to express their gratitude for all of Maggie’s friends for creating a little space in their hearts for her.

When the sheets and bedding were being changed, Maggie was there to keep the blankets warm. When illness struck her family, Maggie was there to provide a warm, soothing cuddle. When the world turned upside down, Maggie’s spirit lifted her family up.

A memorial service will be announced at a later time.

Simply put, Maggie was too cool for school. I'll never forget her looking at me, studying me, deciding if she was going to come when I called her name from the bottom of the stairs. She had a beautifully complex human soul. I had the true pleasure of dogsitting her twice and I'll never forget our long walks and chilling watching TV together. She brought laughs and joy to her family and friends. I'll miss you Maggie

Maggie was one of my favorite little doggies. She was one of my best friends the time i spent in the US and she made me feel at home. (Even when she decided to grab a nibble of the brown cheese and puke in my bed at 4am). I would've done anything to be able to see that beautiful girl on more time.

I only "met" Maggie once, through FaceTime. But I heard wonderful stories about her. & if Joey & Shane raised her I know she was beyond loved.

We were blessed to be Maggie's neighbors back in her Norfolk days. She was in afraid, always giving someone her sweet tummy to rub. She reminded us very much of our own little Maggie, and befriended our Murphy. She hit the jackpot: two dads who adored her. Lots of us did too. Holding you all in our hearts. Rick and Alison Schoew and the ancient-but-still-sweet Ms Murphy.

Maggie, you will be missed! Your dad is a childhood friend and from the first time I met you while visiting you and your dads in Raleigh, you had a special place in my heart. When I would spend the night, I would secretly hope that you would be my overnight cuddler. I still have pictures in my phone from the last time I saw you back in 2017 before moving out of state. Joey and Shane, I hope that all of your great memories with Maggie comfort you during this time. She will always be with you two!

I too know the pain that you and Shane share right now. My heart breaks for you both. The love you shared will be with you always. Be free Maggie as you cross that Rainbow Bridge and find my Whitney. She will guide you into your new world until your dads call for you again. Love you. Emo Lala

My sweet sweet baby. You were here for only a short time, but you have changed me forever. Love, forever and always, Joey
