Obituary For Oso Parker

Oso (aka Osito or The Amazing Oso) was born on August 11, 2002. The following fall, he chose his forever home to be with the Parker family. It would be the beginning of exceptional relationship that spanned almost twenty years.

It was believed that Oso was a prince in a former life. He loved the royal treatment and had high expectations of his humans. However, his pleasant personality made it easy to overlook these royal traits. Many “despisers” of cats were won over by Oso’s princely charms and good looks.

Oso was an avid traveler and enjoyed exploring new places. He was an indoor kitty but loved the outdoors. Oso was leash and harness trained and enjoyed pulling family members along during outdoor explorations. Drinking ice water and swinging on the porch brought him great enjoyment. He hated wet cat food with the same disgust that many people have for liver. One of his greatest enjoyments was getting “twirlies” and “roastings” during playtime with grandpa.

During the latter part of his life, Oso suffered from many health problems. However, his will to remain with his much-loved family helped him to overcome many setbacks. Oso health issues eventually became too much. With his family by his side, Oso crossed the Rainbow Bridge on April 6, 2022. He was deeply loved by his family, will be immensely missed and forever hold a special place in their hearts.

“Oso, although missing you will hurt, thinking of you will bring us comfort because of the abundant joy and goodness you brought into our lives.”

It has been a little over a year, and we continue to miss you little buddy. Old behavior patterns are still with us. We walk in the bedroom and see a lump under the bed and for just an instant, we think it is you. We hear noises similar to the ones you used to make, and before we remember, we start to head towards it to check on our little guy. You are forever in our hearts and thoughts. We hope you are chasing butterflies, continuing to lift your nose towards the wind getting sniffs, basking in the sunshine and taking lots of kitty naps. We love and miss you.

I loved hearing Oso stories thru the years. He was a lucky kitty to have such a loving family. I will miss Oso stories.

Oso was also a bilingual (English/Spanish) kitty. When I came back from studying abroad in Spain and saw what a cute and cuddly bundle of fluff he was, one of the first words that came to my mind for a name was the Spanish word for bear -- Oso. Sometimes we would call him "Osito" which means little bear. Homesick for Spain and with no one to converse with in Spanish, I would often talk to him in the Castilian language and he would look at me no different than if I were speaking English. I'm convinced he knew what I was saying. Que sueñes con los angelitos, querido Osito.
