Obituary For Picasso Franklin
Picasso spent the first half of his life on the streets of Cabarrus County. After being taken to the local animal shelter and then transferred to the Humane Society here in Charlotte, he became a part of our family. He was originally known as Godzilla for the Godzilla-shaped pattern of fur color on his back, and then Gorgonzola for his black and white coloring. We named him Picasso because the pattern on his face looked like abstract art.
Only being shy on the first day, he quickly bonded with everyone in our family, including our dog. He loved to run around and jump off of furniture, almost looking like he was parkouring. He watched Tom and Jerry and would also watch the leopards on the show Savage Kingdom (we think he was in love with one of them!). He was a vocal cat, letting you know when he was hungry or wanted attention. If you said something to him, he'd meow in response. He'd also let you know when it was time to eat--somehow, he always knew when it was 6 o'clock, his dinner time.
He enjoyed sitting in the windowsills where he would people-watch and interact with the neighborhood stray cats. In his final year, he enjoyed laying in the sunlight whenever he could.
We always tried to figure out things about his life before joining our family. He liked McDonald's fries and chicken fried rice, would get nervous around men wearing heavy boots, didn't like the sound of big trucks, and would get worried if you carried him close to the front door. He also would always ask for his meals, perhaps because he would come up to people in public for food. So we think he lived near a commercial area like a strip mall or shopping center where he would have encountered all of those things (for the door thing, perhaps he had been tossed out of buildings before).
He was a young cat, only being around 5 years old when he passed (when we adopted him in October of 2022, they said he was probably 3). His curiosity, energy, and sweet spirit brought a youthful energy to our home. Although he lived a short life and was only with us for a couple of years, he made a great impact and is truly missed. We hope that being with us for the second half of his life gave him all the love, peace, safety, and comfort that he lacked while living as a stray. He may have entered the world as a stray but he passed as a member of our family.
We love and miss you Picasso 🖤🤍
