Obituary For Scruffy Gray

Scruffy came into our lives in January of 2008 at the young age of 2. We had been looking for a pet for some time and just did not come across the right dog that we felt would be a perfect fit for our home.

On the day of the 12th my wife called me about an adoption event being held at a local pet store. She had saw a dog she wanted me to go look at. When I arrived and started towards the area to meet the dog my wife had sent a pic there was this little black cocker spaniel that caught my eyes and mine caught his.

He immediately got up and his little docked tail (nicknamed helicopter tail later) started wagging so fast thought he was going to take off in flight. From that moment I knew Scruff would be the perfect fit and after sending my wife a picture she agreed and that day I’m not sure who adopted who but he became not just a pet but a loving member of our family.

Scruffy was a fun loving, playful, free spirited dog who did not have an enemy in the world. Whether it be a person or another dog he was always friendly towards them. One could not have asked for such a wonderful dog. We had just got into camping and he took to it without incident. Every time we would start loading the camper he would be right there inside the camper; almost as if he wanted to make sure we got everything and most importantly didn’t forget any of his play toys especially his squeaky toys and tennis balls. We went to the lakes and beaches and out of the two the beach was his favorite vacation spot. It was so enjoyable to see him run up and down the beach chasing sea birds and playing ball with him in the ocean until he got so water logged and tired from the splashing waves that we would then go back to our spot, lie down on our chairs and take a nap. He will have one last ride to the beach, and it will be there at his favorite spot where we will say our warm and heart felt goodbyes. I could go on and on and on with stories of him that filled our lives with joy for 16 years.

Scruffy will surely be missed and when that day comes when we meet at the Rainbow Bridge our eyes will lock together once again and that helicopter tail of his will surely get to spinning fast enough to take us across to the other side to be reunited forever.
